Ok, first of all, these guys need new names. I mean come on. Churchburner and Insulter of Jesus Christ. Sounds more like slacker occupations than names to me. It's just silly and ridiculous in a way only black metal bands can be. Goofy ass names aside, I actually rather like this CD. It is definitely lo-fi, but there is good separation and so the rawness actually gives it some character. My first thought was "Oops, I put in Venom's "Black Metal" by mistake!" It really does have an old Venom sound to it, which is definitely cool. I like the old school sound of the guitars. I think this is the sound that so many black metal bands are striving for when they release a crappy sounding album. This is very cold sounding; there probably aren't any bass level frequencies anywhere on here, this all sounds like it's playing through the telephone. When I first listened to this I almost wanted to laugh (possibly because I was still amused by their names) but now I'm really pretty into this disc. So there you have it. If you are into good black metal with quality "poor production" I think you might like this. Pardon me while I go put on my goat suit and run around the mountain forest chasing Christians and virgins. |
