Disillusion has totally taken me by surprise. I've never heard of this band, but man, I expect to be hearing more about them in the future. So far as I can tell this is their first full length release, if that is the case, man what a debut. This album has it all. It's fast and brutal, it's quiet and pretty. There are harsh vocals, there are clean vocals. The songwriting and instrumentation on this disc is superb. It's kind of like progressive power death. I'm not sure what else to call it. Whatever it is, it is fresh and vibrant and I love it. The production is wonderful (apparently Metal Blade felt like spending more on this album than on the latest Six Feet Under), the guitars sound spectacular and everything has very good separation. I hear they are going to do a tour with an expanded lineup (they are only a three-piece) which I think will sound incredible. I wish they were going to be touring over here where I could check it out. This album inspires me and gives me hope for the future of metal. I hope they stay together and do another album, all too often you come across a gem like this and then never hear from them again (remember Cynic?) I can't say enough good things about this disc. I feel that most any fan of metal should be able to enjoy this album. Now get out there and support them so they don't break up or get dropped. |
