Right off the bat the intro to this disc sounds very much like At The Gates' "Slaughter of the Soul"…that is until the music starts. This disc starts off rather laid back trying to lure you in before bashing your skull in, where as "Slaughter" jumped right in and did just that. Track 2, "Godpuppet" cranks up the speed a bit starting off with a very Slayer-ish riff. This is the unexpected blow to the head you receive for getting lured in by the intro. Fast, heavy, and full of death (insert death growl here.) This sounds very Swedish (ala At The Gates), and in fact I think they are Swedish, so that works out nicely. In fact I think there is/was former At The Gates members in this band. Whatever their nationality, whoever may have been in other bands, this is some good death metal here folks. It's heavy and brutal yet chuck full of cool melodic leads (the Swedish signature.) Track 4, "Everlasting" and I am still hearing a very heavy Slayer influence in the guitar department. Mmmm. I hear Kerry King (if you don't know who he is, you don't have any business being at this site) has been blasting people in the media lately, wait 'til he hears this. He will be beside himself. Personally, I don't care if they lift a few Slayer riffs here and there, as long as they are good ones. This lacks the fullness and absolute skullcrushing capacity of the new Bloodbath CD, but that is merely a difference in style. Thus far I have no doubts that this CD will adequately Slay you if you give it a chance. Oh, listen. Frantic whammy bar squealing in "D.O.A.". Does anyone have Kerry's phone number? I'm merely joking with these guys about the Slayer references. You can probably hear a little bit of most any metal band in another metal band if you really try. I'm not saying these things to detract from the music, so please don't misunderstand. This is a great CD. I wouldn't be reviewing it if I didn't think it was great. So look at it that way, if it hasn't been reviewed here, maybe there is a good reason why! (That's the beauty of running the site, no can tell me what to review or what to write!) You wont find anything particularly new or innovative on this CD, but you will find some really good music in the traditional Swedish death metal vein. As always...check it out! |
