While reading up on Pyramaze a little, I just found out that their singer is none other than Lance King, the dude who runs Nightmare Records. How cool is that? I had no idea Lance was a singer as well. That makes me even gladder to say that I really think this is a great disc. This is the second disc I've reviewed from Nightmare Records (the other being Beyond Twilight,) and frankly I can't wait to dive into more. Both discs have been a type of metal that I just don't hear enough of anymore. Most American metal is in the vein of Shadows Fall (which isn't a bad thing) or death metal, and the rest of the world sounds like either black metal, death metal, or epic power metal. Pyramaze (and Beyond Twilight) just play metal dammit! Good stuff. Sometimes Lance reminds me a little bit of Geoff Tate from Queensryche, but not so much that I would say he actually sounds like him. And Queensryche never rocked as hard as this disc. Overall this album sounds like it could be a sequel to Riot's classic "Thundersteel" album, which is probably why I'm digging it so much. The music is molten fluid metal. It's interesting, melodic, and well produced. The production makes the disc sound very big. It will probably take me multiple listens to really absorb this disc, at which point I'm sure I will like it even more. I read somewhere that they are already working on their next album. I can't wait to hear it. Rawkon! |
